Why MacBook Speakers Fail
Blown speaker drivers (most common): caused by sustained high-volume audio or sudden audio spikes. Speaker cone or coil physically damaged. Fix: speaker assembly replacement.
Liquid damage: spills can short or corrode speaker drivers (exposed beneath grilles). Fix: speaker replacement + assessment of related water damage.
Cable / connector issues: internal speaker cable disconnects or frays, especially after disassembly for other repairs. Fix: cable repair or replacement.
Audio codec IC failure: the audio chip on the logic board fails (sometimes from liquid damage, sometimes spontaneously). Fix: chip-level repair on logic board.
Software / drivers: sometimes ‘speaker problems’ are macOS issues, not hardware. Fix: SMC reset, NVRAM reset, OS reinstall (no charge if hardware is fine).
